Deacon David Fagerberg

David W. Fagerberg is professor emeritus at the University of Notre Dame. He holds an M.Div. from Luther Northwestern Seminary; an M.A. from St. John’s University, Collegeville; an S.T.M. from Yale Divinity School; and a Ph.D. from Yale University. First, his work explored how lex orandi is the foundation for lex credendi (Theologia Prima, 2003). Second, he integrated into this the Eastern Orthodox understanding of asceticism as capacitating the liturgical person (On Liturgical Asceticism, 2013). Third, he applied this to daily spirituality in Consecrating the World (2016) and Liturgical Mysticism. (2020). His most recent book is Liturgical Dogmatics (2021), and forthcoming (2022) is a collection of his essays on liturgical theology titled Looking Through Liturgy. He counts it a Chestertonian accomplishment to have been married 50 years to Elizabeth without any diminishment in “the thrill of domesticity.”
